Seeking candidate students to apply for a PhD scholarship on modeling aquatic ecosystems in Catalonia (Spain)

WHAT: We look for graduate students with good academic record, especially in Ecology and Mathematics, as candidates to apply for public scholarships in Catalonia (Spain), in order to carry out a PhD Thesis on modeling top-down and bottom-up interactions in aquatic food webs. The project will focus on modeling fresh water ecosystems impacted by human activities that may undergo ecosystem shifts due to a combination of stressors such as eutrophication, invasive species and water abstraction.

WHERE: The PhD work will be carried out at the Aquatic Ecosystems Department of IRTA, located in the Centre of Sant Carles de la Ràpita (Catalonia, Spain), in collaboration with the Department of Computer Science and Applied Mathematics of the University of Girona (UdG). The Supervisors of the PhD Thesis will be Dr. Carles Ibáñez (IRTA), Dr. Nuno Caiola (IRTA) and Dr. Joan Saldaña (UdG).

REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor or Ms Degree in Biology, Mathematics or similar, with good academic record and strong interest in ecosystem modeling. The candidate will be asked to prepare a proposal to apply for a scholarship of the Catalan and/or Spanish Governments. The development of the PhD Thesis will be subject to the achievement of the scholarship.
